| AJP Computers have been established since 1986 and have over 19 years experience within the computer industry. They were one of the first to introduce The Notebook Computer and also The New Generation Desktop with flat screen LCD technology. Having worked with AJP on a number project, and having developed their last two sites, we were delighted to be asked to work on developing the latest AJP website. The brief was to extend the functionality that was currently available, redesign the interface and make the site more user friendly front end, and user friendly on the admin side. The most fundamental change was to the menu structure. AJP have an ever changing stock and a large number of computers. There needed to be a way for site visitors to easily identify the product they were interested in. We therefore split the menu into categories and sub categories, and also into budget ranges, all dynamically populated, making it easier for users to quickly find the computer they are interested in. The site is completely modular, and allows for rapid development of additional functions. It allows the customer to fully configure and build their chosen computer, based on a series of options presented, on a computer by computer basis. A cross-selling function from within the site itself, was also introduced. The site is integrated to a secure online ordering facility. We also made some extensive modifications to the administration area. Many computers have the same 'chassis' but slightly different spec. So a facility that allows admin staff to replicate existing models and modify as desired, has proved a very useful and time saving facility. A content management system allows AJP to have full control of the website, and a customer management area allows AJP to monitor and manage their customers and orders. Additional features to the site has seen the introduction of a Build to Order dealer only section, which allows for AJP's network of dealers to log into an extranet that allows them to order computers that are built to order. |
