Tonic Designs were asked to build a website for www.autotxttrader.com that would facilitate the buying and selling of cars, through mobile handsets.

The site was also developed into s simplified WAP site, where users can search, register, log in and contact sellers.

Users are invited to create ads by uploading descriptions and images of their car. All ads are billed to the mobile handset, with various precautions taken to insure that the full billing amount is taken before an ad is live on the site.

Buyers can then search the database, view details of selected vehicles, and instigate contacting the seller via SMS through the site. No contact details are exchanged at this stage.

Buyers can also create a 'wish list' of vehicles they have seen but not yet contacted the seller, and create a personalised search. This will involve the buyer requesting either an email alert, or an SMS text and picture alert to their mobile handset, when a vehicle matching their selected criteria is added to the site.

An alert service was devised to match a fixed number of criteria, enabling buyers to select their preferred criteria, and receive not just SMS text alerts, but also picture alerts direct to their mobile handsets.

How do the alerts work?
Users interested in buying a car through www.autotxttrader.com, and who's ideal car is not yet registered on the site, are able to personalise their search and request SMS, picture, and email alerts when their ideal car is added to the site.

Users are able to select a range of criteria which best describes their ideal car. They can then choose up to 3 out of 6 of those choices to match which will trigger their alerts. They can then choose their alert method, SMS text message, giving them the Ad. reference direct to their mobile phone. Picture message, giving them one of the 4 pictures available direct to their mobile phone. Or as an email alert.
